One of the most common pet services offered in Orlando is pet sitting services. Many people in Orlando Florida have dogs and cats as well as other types of pets. When they go away on vacation they want to find a good pet sitting service in Orlando.
However different people have different ideas on what pet sitting is or what they should expect. There actually are many different types of pet sitting services in Orlando, each with it’s pros and cons.
So I’ll try to explain here what you should expect from a pet sitting service in Orlando, and what to look for when getting an honest and quality pet sitting service. There are many to choose from in Orlando, both good and bad.
First, never ever get a dog or cat pet sitter on Craigslist! You might find a cheap good one on there, but more likely you’ll find one run by a 16 year old doing it in his spare time. You want to get an established pet sitting service that has been around a while.
That means getting a pet sitting service that has a business license with the city of Orlando or the city it’s in. It should be insured and bonded, and preferably a member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau). However there are good ones that are not listed there. Having a website is a plus but not necessary.
There are two types of pet sitting services you can find. One type has the pet sitter come to your own home and take care of your pet. The other type you bring your pet to them and they care for it there. Both have pros and cons about them.
Home pet sitters that come to you
Home pet sitting services in Orlando have a person come to your home while your away and care for your pet. This can be just stopping by once or twice a day to feed and take your pet for a walk, to staying overnight in your home.
Your pet will feel more relaxed in it’s own home and not be as stressed out as if you took it somewhere else. The pet sitter can feed your pet it’s own food and everything for your pet is right there.
If the pet sitter stays overnight, it then becomes more like house sitting. Your home will be more protected having someone there with lights on, collecting your mail and preventing break ins.
However that also means a stranger is in your home, using your home and has access to everything in there. You have to have a lot of trust in the pet sitter, which is why you need to find one that is licensed and insured. Getting references is a must if your going to let someone stay in your home with your pet.
If having a stranger in your home turns you off, then the other type of pet sitting in Orlando services you can use are the ones that take care of your pet in their shop or own home.
Pet sitting in their home or pet boarding shops
There are many pet sitting services in Orlando that take care of pets in their own home. Often they already have a pet of their own with a fenced in yard. Some are only cat pet sitters and only take cats. Others only do dog pet sitting, and still others do both plus other types of pets.
You also can find big, established dog kennels and pet boarding service shops in Orlando. Some go by fancy names like pet spas, pet day care centers and so on. One is Preppy Pet, and also Fur & Feathers pet resort. I have done a review on both, click the links to read them.
At these pet sitting services they provide a cage or room for your pet. They play with your pet, take your dog for walks, feed them and clean up after them. Some even offer webcams so you can see your pet on your laptop while your away!
There are many different levels of service from each one, and different prices on your type of pet and how much you want them to care for your pet. Some just feed your pet, while others have play times, grooming and washing and more.
Your pet will be more stressed out away from home, but you don’t have to worry about someone you don’t know inside your house. You also can rest easy your pet is not breaking anything in your home or chewing the furniture while your away.
Find out just what services your pet will get. Will they walk your dog, and if so how often? Do the dogs get their own outside run? Will your pet be housed together with other pets, or be allowed to play with others?
Do they keep cats in a different area from the dogs? You don’t want your cat being barked at the whole time your away. Do they supply pet toys for your pet? Do they feed the pets with their food or do you bring your own?
Ask to go in the back and see the pets they now have. Is it clean in there? Does it smell strong? Do the pets have plenty of water? Do they look happy and content, at least as best as they can be at a boarding place?
As you can see there is a lot to think about, the main one being do you get a pet sitter that comes to your home or do you place your pet in someone else’s home or a boarding shop? Both have pros and cons that only you can decide for yourself.
