A staggering number of dogs are abandoned or abused in Florida every year. Some end up on the streets, trying to fend for themselves, and some wind up in shelters, desperately hoping for forever homes.
And you know what usually awaits the dogs that don’t find good homes – they’re often euthanized. Too often, this is the case with older dogs and with dogs that have special needs.
Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida is a non-profit organization staffed by heroes. They take dogs that no one else wants, including dogs on “death row.” Once the dogs are taken in, their health needs are assessed and veterinary care is provided.
Then they’re placed in foster homes where they receive lots of love, attention, and socialization. When the dogs are ready to go to permanent homes, they’re carefully matched with potential owners.
Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida has a variety of dogs up for adoption, ranging in age from puppies to seniors. Several breeds are also represented, including poodles, wheaten terriers, border terriers, cockapoos, Maltese, schnoodles, Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, Chinese crested, and mixed breeds.
To adopt a pet from Poodle and Pooch Rescue of Florida, you’ll need to fill out an application, which can be done online. You’ll be screened and interviewed, and a representative of the organization will perform a home visit. Adoption fees, in the form of donations, range in price, depending on the dog you select.
If you can’t permanently adopt a new furkid, but you’d still like to help, consider fostering a needy pet. The organization will provide you with a collar, a leash, food, visits to the veterinarian, and other supplies you might need. All you add is loving care!
