A few weeks ago I went with some friends to Wekiwa springs state park. It’s located off 434 in Apopka, the exact address is 1800 Wekiwa Circle Apopka, Florida 32712. It’s a beautiful park on the Wekiwa river and rock springs run.
This was the first time I was there and it was really nice. I thought I would mention it here because it also is a very dog friendly state park. We rented one of the cabanas that you can rent.
These are basically tall tents with some furniture, coolers, chairs and gas grills. They are located right next to the wooden boardwalk along the springs. One of us had a dog with us.
I took the pictures that you see here, but there is much more to the park than this. Wekiwa springs state park has lots of canoes and kayaks you can rent to explore the river. There are two campsites only accessible by water.
It also has a snack and beverage bar where they serve alcoholic drinks, you are not allowed to bring your own alcohol into the park. There are several restrooms and changing rooms.
It also has a volleyball area, horseshoe pit and a few other things. There are many hiking trails you can go on, plus several camping sites, from primitive ones to full hookup RV ones.
If your a horse lover it even has horse campsites and 8 miles of horse trails. Biking is also popular, with miles of off road biking trails. There are many other things to see and do at Wekiwa springs state park.
If you take your dog they must be on a leash at all times. You can walk them along the trails and in use areas, however they are not suppose to be let into the swimming areas.
However that seems to be an unenforced rule, as I saw many dogs in the water swimming with their masters. So use your own judgement on if you let them in the water with you.
If you enjoy nature then make sure you check out Wekiwa springs state park with your dog and pets. Check out the website below for full details on this great pet friendly state park!
